Rankwire: 02 October 2026; Colombo – The SriLankan Airlines Flight Training division has successfully delivered a specialised Airbus A330 Line Flying Under Supervision (LFUS) course for six senior pilots from Etihad Airways, highlighting the airline’s growing role in regional aviation education. This achievement underscores the trust Etihad Airways places in SriLankan Airlines’ training and operational expertise, while also deepening the collaborative ties between the two national carriers.

Participants included five Type Rating Examiners (TREs) and one Senior Type Rating Examiner (STRE) from Etihad Airways. The programme benefitted from the knowledge and experience of SriLankan Airlines’ flight instructors, seasoned flight crew members, and operational support teams, all working together to ensure the visiting examiners received a comprehensive, safe, and professionally enriching training experience.
Captain Chaminda De Zoysa, Head of Flight Operations at SriLankan Airlines, reflected on the programme’s achievements, stating, “For SriLankan Airlines, this opportunity was more than just a single training session. It showcases the airline’s ability to utilise its Airbus A330 fleet, skilled instructors, operational know-how, and established training infrastructure to support the growth and development of aviation professionals from other leading global carriers. This initiative also emphasizes SriLankan Airlines Flight Training’s potential to act as a key regional partner for high-quality, specialised aviation training solutions for international operators.”
The successful execution of this programme involved meticulous planning and coordination by SriLankan Airlines. Support from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), the Ministry of Defence, and other relevant agencies was crucial in establishing the necessary framework and obtaining all required clearances, ensuring a smooth and efficient training process.
