SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / – Samsung Electronics introduced its eighth-generation foldable lineup during the global Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event held in London, unveiling three new devices: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean technology giant showcased updated hardware designs, enhanced camera systems, and integrated AI platforms across all three models. This announcement marks the first time the Ultra designation has been included in Samsung’s foldable device lineup, targeting enterprise users with a record-thin foldable profile measuring 4.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighing 215 grams.

The standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a redesigned form factor weighing just 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable smartphone in the company’s history. It sports a 10:16 aspect ratio on the cover screen and a 4:3 ratio on the main display, allowing versatile content viewing for browsing, reading, and video playback. Both screens utilize Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, support a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and reach peak brightness of 3,000 nits under Vision Booster technology. Power comes from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, coupled with a 4,800 mAh battery.

To enhance structural durability while maintaining a slim profile, Samsung engineered a proprietary Flex Titanium display framework for its premium foldables. This architecture combines a titanium-alloy film with a support plate underneath to absorb impacts, distribute mechanical tension, and minimize screen creasing over extended use. Additionally, hinge balance, magnetic force, and display tension were fine-tuned to ensure smoother opening actions. The device features a low-reflection finish to improve outdoor visibility and preserve vivid colors in bright conditions.

    Enhanced Hardware and Productivity Features

The flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra increases its screen space with an 8.0-inch QXGA+ main display and a 6.5-inch cover screen. Built for multitasking and media production, the Ultra model includes a 200-megapixel main camera with High Dynamic Range, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor. It also supports 8K video recording with the APV video codec and features Cine LUT color management tools, catering to professional mobile videographers.

Internally, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features an expanded graphite cooling system designed for better thermal management during demanding tasks. It is powered by a 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery with a 45W dual-path fast-charging system that efficiently distributes power across both cells. The device offers options up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, running on One UI 9 based on Android 17.

    Software Features and Market Introduction

Alongside the larger foldables, Samsung introduced the compact Galaxy Z Flip8, which measures 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighs 180 grams. This clamshell device features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 6.9-inch main screen, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,300 mAh battery. All three foldable models include advanced AI features developed in collaboration with Google, such as Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge, aimed at automating workflows, summarizing complex documents, and streamlining app navigation.

Availability of the Galaxy Z Fold8 series begins immediately with global pre-orders following the Unpacked event, with retail shipments scheduled for August 7, 2026. Prices start at $1,899.99 for the base Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Ultra and Z Flip8 models feature updated hardware pricing across regional markets. This launch underscores Samsung’s ongoing strategy to promote foldable devices within both premium consumer and enterprise segments worldwide.
