EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – The UAE and Egypt have officially activated a five-year wheat supply contract valued at up to US$500 million. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading is responsible for delivering imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities under this arrangement. The transaction will be financed through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework established in 2023 and defines the terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.

The signing took place on Aug. 26, 2026, at the headquarters of Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also serves as GASC chairman, was present for the signing ceremony. Additionally, Al Dahra co-founder and managing director Khadim Abdullah Al Darei attended the event. Officials did not specify the volume of wheat covered by this agreement, nor did they disclose details regarding delivery timelines, shipment origins, annual purchase goals, or the pricing structure for individual transactions.
This latest deal builds upon a financing program announced jointly by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving financing dedicated to wheat and other essential commodities. The program was designed for annual renewal over a five-year span, potentially amounting to a total of US$500 million. Egypt’s ministries of finance and international cooperation participated alongside GASC in establishing this framework. The current agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat utilizing that existing financing structure.
Framework extends into active wheat supply phase
ADEX functions as the export-financing division of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases linked to UAE exporters. The 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other vital commodities supplied through Al Dahra. Its revolving nature allowed the financing to be renewed annually during the five-year period. This new supply agreement does not establish an additional US$500 million facility but instead provides the commercial framework for GASC to acquire imported wheat from Al Dahra through the existing ADEX financing mechanism.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations within Egypt, including farms located in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating roughly 28,000 hectares in Egypt. It also revealed that over the previous three years, it supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. At that time, Al Dahra indicated that approximately 85% of the wheat produced on its Egyptian farms entered the local market. The firm currently manages an agricultural platform that serves more than 40 markets globally.
Imported wheat procurement remains linked to ADEX financing scheme
The agreement signed in El Alamein pertains specifically to imported wheat supplied to GASC, while Al Dahra also produces crops within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn. Consequently, the new agreement relates to an import channel supported by UAE export financing. GASC continues to be the Egyptian governmental body responsible for procurement under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed the total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered by this five-year deal.
The total value of this program remains capped at US$500 million over the five-year period, following the structure established in 2023. Neither party has published an annual shipment schedule nor revealed which countries will supply the wheat imports. Additionally, the formula for pricing individual transactions has not been disclosed. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed agreement links Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC via the existing ADEX financing program, marking the operational phase of this five-year arrangement.
