BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – During a visit to Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The discussions primarily focused on enhancing bilateral relations, fostering economic collaboration, and advancing developmental initiatives. Additionally, the officials reviewed regional and international issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace initiatives, and global security concerns. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

In their dialogue, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored strategies to reinforce the strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany across multiple sectors. Economic cooperation and development efforts were key topics on the agenda. The ministers also exchanged perspectives on global issues and diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing crises. Sheikh Abdullah underscored the extensive relationship between the two nations and highlighted their history of collaboration in political and economic domains.

This Berlin engagement took place as both countries formalized a broader framework to deepen their bilateral ties. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The two leaders announced the launch of a Strategic Dialogue encompassing security, defense, commerce, investment, energy, climate change, and technological innovation. The initiative also addresses digital transformation, transportation, environmental efforts, culture, and education, thereby broadening the scope of official government interactions.

Enhanced Strategic Partnership Brings Greater Economic Cooperation

Both governments expressed support for establishing a German-UAE Investment Council, part of their broader strategy to foster stronger links between public agencies and private sector enterprises within each country. Participants welcomed the re-establishment of the Joint Economic Committee and the positive outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The recent visit resulted in the signing of 29 business agreements and memoranda of understanding valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as reported in the joint governmental statement.

Economic talks also covered energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The official declaration included commitments to cooperate in LNG, renewable energy sources, hydrogen, and energy efficiency measures. It mentioned plans for the development of advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Germany and the UAE identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as additional focal points for bilateral collaboration, alongside investment and industrial initiatives.

Focus on Diplomacy and Regional Security Continues

During their meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul also addressed regional and international developments. Their discussions encompassed ongoing international efforts aimed at supporting peace, stability, and security worldwide. The importance of diplomatic engagement and peaceful crisis resolution remained central to their talks. The German government had previously emphasized Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ dialogue within the larger diplomatic agenda in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the discussions between the two foreign ministers, linking diplomatic dialogue with the economic and developmental priorities highlighted during the state visit. These talks built upon earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The recent meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms to support the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, while maintaining a focus on economic cooperation, investment, and diplomatic engagement as core elements of their relationship.
